Many of the photos of flowers you find on dA are beautiful buds ready to open or flowers in full bloom ... it is rare that we photograph these wondrous plants after the bloom starts to shrivel ... I tend to think most of us don't want to see this as it reminds us of our own mortality.

In this photo, we see these sunflowers withering beneath the harsh Texas sun ... struggling to survive under severe circumstances. They have bloomed for a short period of time and now their glory starts to fade ...

Are they still beautiful?

Yes, they are very beautiful. I think that they still look good because there is a lot of motion in this pic: maybe I'm wrong, but it seems to me that the wind's blowing very hard, and the petals look "alive". As a consequence, I don't really see "my own mortality" in this particular shot.

I like this photo because of the sense of motion ...

I think even in dying there is life.

I agree ... focus on the beautiful or young leaves little room for reality.

Yeah, and just like in people.... in the big picture, how long are most people in thier prime physically.... but people can be beautiful their whole lives, thru every stage of life.
